Bauhinia was first discovered in Pok Fu Lam next to a broken hut in 1880s by the fathers of the Mission Etrangérès who had cut the branches for transplanting. The species epithet “blakeana” in its scientific name was adopted for memorializing the 12th Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Henry Arthur Blake and his wife for their contribution on botanical research and the Hong Kong Botanic Gardens (the current Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens). Hong Kong Orchid Tree was identified as a new species and named by the then Superintendent of the Botanical and Forestry Department S. T. Dunn in 1908.

About Post Office: Post Office is a project looking at independent art spaces in Asia as ‘a base for participation and exchange’ by utilizing a virtual postal system. In this project, ADL becomes the postal system and functions as an exchange platform and archive center. The participating spaces, as local post centers, organize and conduct workshops at their regions and exchange the relevant objects with ADL through the mail. Through the phenomenon of the post, ADL aims to question what would be ‘participation’ and ‘exchange’ valid in Asia in the time of the non-face-to-face. In the project Post Office, ADL aims to promote exchanges by collaborating with independent art spaces in the Four Asian Dragons, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong regions. In these regions, space has been understood as a field for gatherings related to the myth of community or an object of property speculation after rapid urbanization during the high-degree development period. The characteristics and meaning of space in the four regions, which have generated collective cultures and property value, are reflected in independent art spaces. )
