About the Exhibition:
What happens when the golden age of 1980s and 90s Hong Kong cinema meets the everyday landscapes, architecture, and daily rhythms of Sheffield?

Streets on Screen is a co-curated exhibition showcasing photography and mixed-media artworks created by ten project collaborators. Over the past few months, participants embarked on a unique creative journey across time and space:
Watch: Revisiting iconic 1980s–1990s Hong Kong films to rediscover their emotional and aesthetic resonance.
Identify: Uncovering subtle “British traces,” architectural parallels, and cultural crossovers embedded within cinematic frames.
Explore: Wandering the streets and community spaces of Sheffield, using cameras and mixed media to capture daily connections.
Co-curate: Sharing personal memories, engaging in deep dialogues, and weaving lived experiences into a collective narrative.

Through photography, collage, and mixed-media art, participants have re-imagined legendary film scenes through Sheffield’s urban backdrop. By blending personal memories with cinematic nostalgia, this exhibition explores how Hong Kong’s silver screen heritage finds unexpected, vibrant new life in South Yorkshire—bridging two distinct worlds through art, dialogue, and shared community stories.
