About the Exhibition:
“Cross Currents” juxtaposes the work of two mixed media artists, who employ very different creative approaches, as well as contrasting methods and materials, to explore ideas about place, perception, memory and change.

Overview:
Mei Yuk Wong’s work features text sewn into paper bags, where personal experiences are interspersed with major events from Hong Kong’s history and the wider world. Underpinning the work is a focus on mental wellbeing and social change. A multidisciplinary artist, curator, producer and writer, Mei Yuk Wong’s work often merges personal and social issues. Originally from Hong Kong, she uses a wide range of materials and techniques to create her work. This has been shown extensively in both the UK and overseas.

Ian Vines’s photographs, ranging from the Thames and the Cornish coast to a Hong Kong fishing village, are combined with assorted objects and materials. In collages and constructions that play with the viewer’s perceptions, landscapes are rotated, inverted, fragmented. After studying fine art, Ian Vines worked in galleries and museums for many years, organising all kinds of exhibitions. More recently, he has concentrated on developing his own work which has been exhibited nationally and internationally, from Manchester to London, The Hague to Hong Kong.
