About Book • Journey :

- Please roll down for English -

Book • Journey

“A book read by a thousand people becomes a thousand different books,”
said filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.

Each borrowed book is a living traveller.

With every turning of a page, with every new pair of hands, it sets out on another voyage.

It is more than paper and ink — it carries fragments of human experience, worlds of thought, the pulse of countless hearts.
Every encounter with a reader is a renewal: the book lives on, unfolding fresh meanings and untold possibilities. In this Book • Journey programme, we invite readers to rediscover the power of books — to see how they illuminate life, preserve places, heal the soul, and awaken joy:

The Stories of Life: A book can be a compass of wisdom. It helps us face doubt and decision, revealing how others have struggled, overcome, and found their way. Through their journeys we glimpse ourselves — our choices, our longings, our hidden strength. Each story is a mirror, reflecting the human spirit and the many paths we may take.

The Stories of Place: Writers record their own lives, yet in doing so, they preserve the soul of a city. The fleeting moments of Hong Kong — a city that slips away like sand — are held still in words, its contours rendered timeless. What memory cannot keep and history cannot hold becomes eternal in literature.

The Stories of the Soul: Life is imperfect; suffering is inevitable. Yet every wound carries the seed of healing. Since pain is part of our path, let us listen more, read more, and think more — finding meaning in the act of living itself.

The Stories of Joy: Joy is of the heart, like air unnoticed until we breathe it in deeply. To cling to happiness is to lose it; to read is to rediscover it. Books awaken quiet delight — reminding us to see beauty in the ordinary and to seek grace in small moments of wonder.

Each reader comes to a book with their own moods, questions, and memories.
To open a book is to meet a companion — one that listens, provokes, and transforms.
Reading is a shared journey: the reader travels through the book, and the book continues its journey within the reader’s life.

For Book • Journey, we have chosen a collection of books as our travellers.
Each carries a notecard inviting readers to leave behind their thoughts, reflections, and discoveries — traces of where the book has been, and whose hearts it has touched.

Every notecard becomes part of the book’s odyssey, a dialogue between text and soul.

Through this exhibition of books and notes, we hope to reveal how stories connect lives, places, hearts, and moments of joy — how reading itself is a form of travel, and every reader, a voyager.

A book is both the beginning of a journey and a companion along the way.
May each book’s life be renewed through your reading — and may your journey, in turn, be enriched through the books that find you.
